Indonesian Tertiary Education Students’ Academic Writing Setbacks and Solutions

Writing is a crucial skill and tertiary education students face difficulties in academic writing. This paper aimed to identify the setbacks or solutions experienced by Indonesian A survey was used as method of this study. The data were collected through questionnaire using Google form distributed 26 fifth-semester taking Academic course English Language Education Study Program Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, for year 2019/2020. results showed that, general, faced in, example, parts speech, tenses, spelling, prepositions, vocabulary, punctuation, cohesion, discourse markers, writing paragraphs with clear focus, constructing coherent essays, paraphrasing, in-text referencing, compiling correct reference list. Concerning solutions, that lecturers should be trained equipped various strategies, feedback on strengths weaknesses vital, needed improve their organization ideas, example. Other better language skills, elements, critical thinking referencing. Implications findings are would understand common have opportunities adopt suggested difficulties.
